Caerphilly Mountain, 16 August 2025

Van road car park in Caerphilly greeted 16 happy ramblers (including friends old and new Lindy, Barbara, June and Jan) at the start of our 9.5 mile stroll. We started by heading east through Coed Parc-y-van, crossed the road by Rudry common and turned south to the Rhymney valley ridgeway walk. This we followed in a south westerly direction, crossing over the Cefn Onn tunnel and having a cuppa at the quarry. Well cuppa'd, we continued in the same direction past Blaen-nofydd, through the golf links and onto the Black Cock pub where luncheon was consumed. We then turned north easterly on the steady climb to the top of Caerphilly mountain, enjoying spectacular views of flat holm and steep holm on the way. Views admired and photos took, we then headed towards the mountain cafe for a welcome ice-cream then turned easterly across the Warren and back to the start. Mud index was only a 2, not bad in a drought! A big thanks to Peter for a great walk and to all for the lovely company.
