Fourteen lucky ramblers (including welcome guests Sarah, Zoe and another who’s name I missed) came along to our 5.5 mile figure of eight walk today. We started out in bright sunshine along the road from the Red Lion to Winch-Fawr where we took the footpath up to the top where we could admire the scenery. Picking up the road, we then went down to and along Gernant lane where we followed the forestry track to the pond by the old quarry entrance where we had lunch and a cuppa. Refreshed, we headed towards the bike park then turned west up along a new track to the Merthyr/Aberdare border where we turned north. At Pen Llwynmelyn, we turned east down a steep path to meet another forestry track which is at the top end of a public right of way recently cleared by the Merthyr Valley Ramblers path-clearing team. We went down this path which brought us back to Gernant lane where we returned to our start point. A superb walk expertly led by Maureen and Katherine with great company in perfect weather - great stuff!
