Wednesday the 25th September marked the opening ceremony of the public right of way between the barrier by Blaencanaid farm and the forestry road below Heolgerrig quarry in Merthyr Tydfil. This path has been unused for many years but thanks to the assistance of MTBC, Tydfil training, Dawn Bowden, Active Merthyr Tydfil and NRW, the volunteers of the Merthyr Ramblers path clearing team were able to do the work we see today. Fortunately for us, Councillor Geraint Thomas was able to machete the last barrier to the path and declare it open. He spoke well of the history of the area and the importance of keeping the footpaths open. Once the deed was done, a celebratory toast was made to thank all involved for their hard work.
