Today 14 Merthyr Valley Ramblers🚶‍♂️🚶‍, including our guest John and his labrador Ted 🐶 met at the Blaen y Glyn Uchaf car park and headed to the crash site of the Wellington bomber R1465 ✈️, which tragically crashed on 06 July 1942, killing all five crew members 😢. The walk started with a challenging climb up past the waterfalls 💦, north towards Craig y Fan Ddu. We followed the Beacons Way towards Graig Fan Las, where we reached the fork and descended to the cairn at the memorial site 🕯️. We observed a two-minute silence at 11am ⌚, before Alan Hancox delivered a moving service and laid our wreath at the site 🌺. It was time for another climb up to Cwar y Gigfran and we continued past Gwalciau’r Cwm and Craig y Fan towards Carn Pica, where we took a break and enjoyed some snacks with a view 🍪. We then followed the ridge back to the fork and retraced our steps back to the car park 🚗. We were very lucky to have the sun shining brightly today ☀️ and we saw spectacular views throughout the day 🌄.
