Chartist Caves, 07 September 2024

It was a damp and misty start for the eleven trepid Merthyr Valley Ramblers at the start of their seven mile walk to the Chartists cave today. From Trefil, we headed northwards past the Duke's table and turned northeast by Darren Ddu then southeast at Garn Fach where a quick cuppa was consumed. We then made our way to our destination, the Chartist's cave where we had lunch. From there, we headed southwards past the east side of the quarry, the sun then making an appearance and rapidly turning damp and misty into clear, hot and humid. Then, back into Trefil where we stopped in the newly-refurbished “The top house” - what a lovely place to end a walk and have a drink. Superb staff and I bet the food is great too! A worthy end to a great walk thanks to Rob and Morfedd and to all for the great company.
