Yesterday's adventure with the Merthyr Valley Ramblers was nothing short of historic! Led by the ever-knowledgeable Jenny, our group of 17 enthusiastic walkers embarked on a journey through time and nature. Starting from the Hirwaun Library, we were greeted by the sight of an ancient millstone, a silent testament to the area's rich past. As we ventured towards the new A465 workings, the serene Hirwaun Ponds waved us by. Escaping the clamour of the roads, we found solace and a spot for tea to the east of Penderyn Reservoir. The upward trail led us north towards Pantcefnffordd, only to wind down west past the historic St Cynog's church. Our path then meandered through the enchanting woodland at Pontbren Llwyd, where we relished our lunch by the pond's edge. The journey back was a southward stroll filled with fascinating tales of the Ironmasters Crawshay and their old dwellings. A heartfelt thank you to Jenny for her guidance, and to welcome guests Louise, Julie, Katrina, and all the ramblers for making it a day to remember. Here's to many more!
