From the layby, 16 walkers including 2 guests, walked through the National Craig y Cilau nature reserve beneath the escarpment and then a had short climb up to the old tramroad, with views across the valley of Sugar Loaf, Skirrid and Table mountain. After a tea break, we headed along a quiet road leading to the footpath and the lonely shepherd, where we had lunch in the sunshine. We then turned off to a lower tramway, parallel with our tracks and carried on until we joined our original path back to the car park.A great walk, and we just managed to beat the rain. We stopped off for a well earned drink in the local pub before setting off for home.
