Llanthony Priory & Hatterrall Ridge Circular, 29 June 2024

Today, 14 Merthyr Valley Ramblers, including welcome guests Sue & Lisa, met at the historic Llanthony Priory for the Llanthony Priory & Hatterrall Ridge circular, led by Morfydd and Rob. The parking is free and there are toilet facilities available, which is always a bonus. The weather was changeable early on, which saw us donning waterproofs before we set off but soon discarding layers as we headed north before picking up the Beacons Way. This took us to the always impressive Hatterrall Ridge, with panoramic views of the Black Mountains and even as far as the sea and beyond! Once on top of the ridge, we enjoyed a lunch break where we had a choice of views: England to the East or Wales to the West. Both were spectacular. Refreshed, we made our way along the ridge towards the trig point and beyond, picking up the Offa's Dyke Path before our steep descent towards Loxidge. The car park was in sight, and we were soon in the grounds of the splendid Priory where we sought refreshments at the conveniently placed pub, part of the hotel.
