A walk through Quakers Yard, llanfabon, Nelson & Trelewis, 31 January 2026

Incessant rain (or what we call “picking” in Merthyr) greeted the 15 well-waterproofed ramblers in Nelson today. Starting from the waterworks, we began by walking towards Quakers Yard. We then turned west and came to the fiddlers elbow roundabout. Crossing the road, we climbed up to the cemetery and followed the tramway to the Railway inn at Nelson, having a quick cuppa on the way. We then turned South past Tae’r-heol then east and picked up the Rhymney valley ridgeway walk back into Nelson. After lunch in the playground, we headed east to Parc Penallta and followed the railway to Quakers Yard then returned to the waterworks. Then the sun came out. Big thanks to visitors Jen and Steve, Peter for the walk and all for the great company.
