What a difference a year makes! The "Wettest Walk" winner at last year's annual meal returned today in glorious form — and this time it was all about shorts, t-shirts, and suncream! 14 happy ramblers joined us today, including a welcome return for Alan and returning guests Chris and Helen, great to have you with us again. Led by the fantastic Lynne and Caroline, we set off from the free car park and wandered east through the sun-drenched fields of Trelewis for our first cuppa break. We continued north past the Hendai Farm solar park, now a renewable energy site helping power local homes. Then it was on to Gelligaer Common, where we crossed the site of the Roman Practice Works — believed to be ancient military training grounds from the Roman era, giving us a fascinating link to history right under our boots! Lunch was enjoyed with a view to remember, before heading towards the disused Bedlinog quarries, once vital to the area's industrial history. The final stretch brought us south past the Rock UK Summit Centre, where ice creams were very well received — by both the two-legged and four-legged ramblers alike! We strolled the scenic Cycle Route 476 along the river back to our cars, hearts full and spirits high. Massive thanks to our walk leaders as always, and to everyone who joined us today — we hope to see you again soon!
