The Bryn from Pencelli, 03 August 2024

Today, 12 lucky ramblers, including our wonderful guests Marco and Katie from the Netherlands, gathered in the layby opposite Pencelli Castle Campsite for a 6 mile circular walk taking in The Bryn. A bit of history: Pencelli Castle, built around 1080 A.D., has a rich past filled with tales of conflict and royalty. It was once home to Gwladus Ddu, Princess of North Wales, and has seen many battles over the centuries. We set off towards Pentwyn along quiet country lanes, serenaded by the sounds of nature and the charming bell ringing from St Meugan's Church in Llanfeugan. A bit of history: St Meugan;s Church dates back to the 13th century and features a beautiful north aisle and a tower with a fine peal of eight bells. Today was extra special as we welcomed back Geoff as our walk leader after an enforced absence. He soon had our hearts racing as we ascended towards The Bryn. The views of the Beacons were simply outstanding, with Pen Y Fan, Fan y Big, and Corn Ddu all around us. We took a welcome tea break halfway up before our final push to the Cairn marking the high point. With the hard work done, we made our way towards Talybont Forest, where we enjoyed a relaxed lunch before descending back to the cars. Thanks to everyone who attended, especially Geoff for leading such a fantastic walk in great weather with superb views.
