It was not bad weather for the 16 Merthyr Valley Ramblers (including welcome guests Caroline, Jennifer, Sarah and Andria) at the start of our 7.5 mile walk from Llangyndir today. The mountain peaks were covered in dragon’s breath as we made our way through the northern part of town to the canal. After crossing Afon Crawnon, we crossed the canal at the lock and started the long climb up to Tor-y-Foel in brightening weather. At Pen-y-Bailey, we stopped for a cuppa and enjoyed the views of Llangorse lake and the valley below while the cloud and mist above beckoned. We restarted and the intermittent sunshine became more sustained as the mist in front of us disappeared and the spectacular views became even better. We stopped at the top for the mandatory group picture the made our way downwards a little way where we had a well deserved lunch whilst overlooking a rather empty looking Talybont reservoir. It was then downhill all the way crossing the river again then along the road past Castle farm back to the car park. A big thanks to Geoff and Judith for leading the walk and all for the great company.
